تُعرف الضفة الشرقية لنهر النيل في الأقصر باسم "أرض الأحياء"، وهي مركز نابض بالحياة للتجارة والحياة المدنية، وتضم معابد عظيمة مثل مجمع معابد الكرنك ومعبد الأقصر، ويربط بينهما طريق أبو الهول الذي تم ترميمه مؤخرًا. وعلى النقيض من الضفة الغربية، التي كانت مقبرة للموتى، كانت الضفة الشرقية تضم مدينة طيبة القديمة الرئيسية، وفيها تقع معظم فنادق المدينة وأسواقها ومتاحفها اليوم.
